White Industries Mavic CD VTG 90's Road Cross Sew Up Wheels Cyclocross

Description

The previous owner of these wheels was a wheelbuilder at the legendary Wheelsmith bike shop in Palo Alto CA when she built these for her own race bike nearly 30 years ago.  She had a good relationship with VooDoo Cycles, who was providing her with frames and parts and she had amassed quite a quiver of training and race bikes, and training and race wheels.  These were the race wheels reserved for her A bike and were likely never ridden unless they were raced.  I sold her A bike last year with its training wheels intact.  The race wheels were reserved for you.
These wheels feature White Industries 28 hole alloy hubs with a titanium alloy cassette shell.  The shell will accept Shimano 8, 9, 10 and 11 speed cassettes.  The rims are both Mavic hard anodized CD finish with the front being GEL 280 and the rear GL330.  The spokes are all double butted Wheelsmith stainless steel and while the rears measure 2.0 at the ends and 1.6 in the centers, the fronts all have much shorter butts and measure 1.55 or 1.5 in the centers.  There was some custom selection at work here. The front wheel weighs 601g and the rear is 787g
Front axle is 100 wide and the rear is 135mm.  Both wheels are pretty true with high tension.  I made a few adjustments to both wheels to tidy up the true and found the gold ano nipples to still turn smoothly in all cases that I tried.  These wheels look ready as is for a lot more miles in the future, or you can further clean them up for your museum piece.
